Welcome back from the break, where all we had to entertain ourselves was media clips of our sweet prince Connor Bedard. To the rest of the NHL, I would like to apologize…
TO ABSOLUTELY NO ONE!
The Chicago Blackhawks get yet another Winter Classic game announcing the 2025 Winter Classic with a video of Bedard that has me counting down the days until the jersey release for the game. The Bedard Winter Classic jersey is already destined to be the most purchased hockey jersey of all time.
This led to a late 8:50 pm puck drop against the Minnesota Wild and future Calder runner-up, Brock Faber. Going into this game I was just happy to watch Blackhawks hockey once again and didn’t come into the game with any expectations. Even without expectations, the first period was incredibly disappointing. Just a single shot on goal in the first 20 minutes coming from Nick Foligno on a 100-foot chip on net is brutal, even for a team that has struggled with getting pucks on net throughout the season. It took who else but Nick Foligno to energize the team by getting into a classic front-of-the-net scrum after a whistle. Jarred Tinordi took this added physicality to heart with a Heavyweight throw-down against Marcus Foligno.
The game ultimately resulted in Petr Mrazek continuing to be one of the best goaltenders in the league keeping his .920 save percentage. Lukas Reichel is slowly settling in and had a pretty good night that the one shot on goal in the box score won't show. Alex Vlasic and Kevin Korchinski continue to be solid defensemen who will continue to grow in the coming years as prospects like Frank Nazar III, and my personal favorite Oliver Moore make their way to the NHL.
Although the 2-1 loss can be discouraging the Hawks have a 3- 3-point buffer between them and the Sharks for a guaranteed top 3 pick and a 25% chance of #1.
Please come back and win the Calder Connor, we miss you.
